Ceteau and Benalec form a Joint Venture Company.

Project data

CeTeau has signed an important Joint Venture agreement with Malaysia based Benalec Holdings bv. The JV is named Benalec CeTeau Asia Sdn Bhd, in which CeTeau holds a 49% share. The JV will target ground improvement for Benalec’s land reclamation projects in the peninsular Malaysia including Johor, Penang, Malacca and Kuantan. The activities of CeTeau Malaysia Sdn Bhd will continue unchanged.

Fully leveraging on the strengths of both companies, the JV has the combination of Benalec’s expertise as a fully integrated marine construction solutions provider primarily in the areas of land reclamation and coastal protection works and CeTeau’s specialist capabilities in the areas of advanced ground improvement technologies and specialized geosynthetic environmental techniques.

Mr Tijl Pieter de Zwart, Managing Director of CeTeau BV commented on the forming of the JV: “Asia is a very important region to CeTeau as the area is experiencing rapid growth and development. CeTeau is very pleased to be going into a partnership with Benalec, which will further strengthen CeTeau’s presence in Malaysia and Asia. Benalec is a cost leader in marine construction particularly in the areas of land reclamation and coastal protection works, with a proven track record of delivering its projects on time and on budget. Leveraging on Benalec’s significant existing projects in hand, the JV will be kept busy immediately. At the same time the JV aims to bid for more jobs within the region. This will allow CeTeau to deploy more equipment and further drive volume for its products and services within the Asian region.”

As a first project to be carried out by the JV, supply and installation of PVD for the 3,500 acre Tanjung Piai Maritime Industrial Part has started already. Some 200 million linear meters of vertical drain will be installed to shorten the settlement period of the soft, compressible clays and reduce post-construction settlements.

Tanjung Piai Maritime Industrial Park is a strategically located reclamation just west of Singapore. The project is part of the the Western Gate Development, focusing on development of a maritime centre comprising oil terminal activities, cargo-handling facilities, logistics parks, shipyards, dry-docks and real estate development.
