Thai GeoTech Knowledge Sharing with CeTeau Green Wall in Khao Yai Scenery

From 18 to 20 September 2015 the 10th Graduate Studies Conferences in Geotechnical Engineering was organized by the Geotechnical Engineering Subcommittee of the Engineering Institute of Thailand. The event was held at the Mandarin Valley Hotel and Resort located near the Khao Yai National Park.

CeTeau is the technical specialist of the Subcommittee to promote geotechnical engineering solutions to the future engineers. As part of the event the master and doctoral students visited the CeTeau showcase project at AKAS Khao Yai, a residential project in Pakchong, Nakhon Ratchasima. This project consists of condominium and villas located at the steep mountain slopes. The project idea originates from natural inspiration with the surrounding Khao Yai Natural Park scenery.

To ensure steep and stable slopes that are free from erosion for the nearby housing, part of the hillside needed to be reinforced. To add to the natural look of the construction a geogrid reinforcement with the so called “wrap around method” was chosen.

CeTeau polymeric geogrids are well-suited to reinforce steep slopes while providing a green facing. The solution provides excellent internal and external stability to the embankment structure due to a combination of superior tensile strength, friction resistance and interlocking of soil and grown vegetation. After planting the vegetation the construction will soon integrate with the Big Mountain scenery and becomes part of the surrounding natural environment.

The visit to the project was a good chance for the students to see the practical use of geosynthetic materials with engineering solutions.
